Arts coordinator's contract extended

Joann Wheeler will continue her work for another six months.

Oil City Council authorized a contract extension for the city's downtown arts revitalization coordinator that will keep the paychecks coming until the end of this year.

Joann Wheeler, appointed to the newly created post in June 2006, will continue her work for another six months under the terms of the contract extension.

In addition, her work hours will increase from 15 hours a week to 20 hours a week. The council vote also changed her salary. Wheeler was hired for the first year at $15,000. The six-month extension will pay her $10,000.

Wheeler's job is to market Oil City nationally in terms of what it can offer artists-in-residence and to provide support, relocation incentives and a point of contact for artists who live here or those who wish to move here.

Council also approved contracts to replace materials used by the city's water department. The successful bidders were Trumbull Industries, $40,327; National Road Utility and Supply, $18,391; L/B Water Service, $2,502; and EAP Industries, $1,971.

Joseph Womer Jr. was tapped to fill a vacancy on the Oil City Zoning Hearing board. He will serve a three-year term.

Richard Gilger was reappointed to a five-year term on the Oil City Redevelopment Authority.

Oil City Mayor Ed Sharp said openings remain on the city's Redevelopment Authority, Shade Tree Commission and Housing Authority.

"If anyone is interested, we encourage them to send letters of interest within the next week or two to (city manager) Tom Rockovich," Sharp said.
