Photo by Jerry Sowden - Ashton Whipple, who celebrated his 80th birthday Wednesday, will be the featured artist in June at the Howling Dog Caf‚ on Seneca Street in Oil City. The Howling Dog is owned by Ashton's son, Charlie Whipple. Ashton didn't begin his painting career until he was in his 60s, but he has painted more than 300 watercolors. The senior Whipple will display about a dozen of those paintings at the caf‚. A reception will be held Saturday, May 30.
