Oil City’s South Side Business Association is preparing for Christmas Past 2009, scheduled to start on Thursday December 3rd and end on Sunday December 6th.

 

On Thursday December 3rd, there will be a Spaghetti Dinner to benefit the Venango County humane Society.  Dinner will be served from 5-7pm at the Oil City Moose Club located on Halyday Run Rd.  Tickets will be $8 per adult and $6.50 for those under 12.    Advanced tickets are available by contacting Carol Gustafson at 814-676-8877.

 

On Friday December 4th, Santa will arrive in the Central Avenue Plaza  via horse and carriage.   Once there, he will light the community Christmas tree and kick off the evening‘s entertainment.  The Oil City Rotary will be hosting a Chili cook off, with registration beginning at 5pm and judging at 7pm;  Mostly Brass will be performing a free Christmas Concert in Christ Episcopal Church’s parish hall; Dexter the clown will be in the Kellner Building lobby; music with Dan Littler will be at Spilling the Beans Coffee shop;  Free pictures with Santa and other holiday characters will be given out courtesy of 4 Your Car Connection; and Horse and wagon rides will be given through Oil City’s historical south side

Also on Friday night, Oil City’s Art Council will be hosting the Cahal Dunne’s Christmas show at the Arlington Hotel.  For more information please call 678-3017 or 676-1509.

Saturday’s activities kick off with a 5K run on the bike trail; hot coffee and donuts will be given to participants.  Saint Stephen’s School will be offering breakfast with Santa;  Followed by the YWCA’s  Sweet Treats; A Victorian Christmas Bazaar at the Knights of Columbus, with musical performances starting at 11am; and Venango Museum’s Christmas Tree Display. 

 Starting at 6pm Saturday, Oil City High school students will be sponsoring an ice skating rink in Justice Park.  Skating in free to the public, but skaters must provide their own skates.  Also new this year; Human Dog Sled races along the length of the park, for more information and registration, please contact Jim Kronmiller at 814-673-0900. The Ryver Nymphs will be performing in the band shell from 7pm-9pm. 

The first annual Chocolate Festival will be at the National Transit Building on Sunday December 6th from 11am – 4pm.  The public is invited to visit with area vendors and sample their sweets.  Merchants will also be offering their wares for sale.  Various musical ensembles will play throughout the day.

Community residents and businesses are invited to enter in the festival’s outdoor decorating contest.  Registration forms are available by contacting the Venango Area Chamber of Commerce at 676-8521.  Prizes will be awarded to those with the brightest, the most traditional and for best overall display.
