2010 OIL HERITAGE

ART SHOW

Monday, July 19th – Sunday, July 25th

 

Dear Artist,

            You are cordially invited to participate in the Oil Heritage Art Show 2010, sponsored by the Oil City Arts Council.  This year’s exhibit will be held from Monday, July 19th through Sunday, July 25th in conjunction with the annual Oil Heritage Festival which runs from Thursday, July 22nd through Sunday, July 25th.  The site of the show will be the Oil Valley Center for the Arts located in the historic National Transit Building at 206 Seneca Street in Oil City, Pennsylvania.

 

An Artist Reception for the Oil Heritage Art Show will be held on Monday, July 19th

from 7-9pm.  This event as well as the exhibition will be open and free to the public.

 ENTRY INFORMATION:   PLEASE READ CAREFULLY…TWO FEE OPTIONS!!!

 Early Bird Registration:  $15.00 for one or two entries; $20.00 for a maximum of three entries. These entries (paperwork only-with completed artwork labels, application and fees) must be postmarked or hand delivered to Art Show Chairperson on or after June 30th.

1.     Regular Registration:  $20.00 for one or two entries; $25.00 for a maximum of three entries for all entries postmarked or hand delivered after June 30th through July 16th.  (See Delivery and Pickup of Artwork Schedule – page 4).

DIVISIONS:

            1.  Professional                         2.  Intermediate                        3.  Amateur

Division Definitions:

Professional

1.  A person who works full or part time producing artwork in any profession.

2.  Any person who works full or part time producing artwork in any medium and has sold their work(s).

3.  Any person who exhibits their work in any medium, in any gallery whether their work is for sale or not.

4.  Any person who teaches art in any way (concepts and/or mediums), even in a volunteer capacity.

5.   Any person who has exhibited art in a previous art show(s) - juried or non-juried - and has won recognition of judges more than 1 time in the Intermediate category.

Intermediate 

1.  Any person (not a professional) who has exhibited previously in the intermediate division, and who continues to progress in artwork of any medium and has not been recognized nor been given an award in the Intermediate category.   

2.  Any person who has exhibited art in a previous art show(s) - juried or non-juried - and has won recognition of judges more than 1 time in the Amateur category.

Amateur

            1.  Any artist who has not exhibited their work previously.

2.  Any person (not an Intermediate, nor a Professional) who has exhibited previously in the Amateur division and who continues to progress in their work in any medium, and has not been recognized at all, nor has won more than one award in the Amateur division.

 

CATEGORIES: PLEASE REVIEW….  

 1.  WATERCOLORS & PASTELS
 2.  OILS & ACRYLICS
 3.  THREE-DIMENSIONAL ARTS - Any medium which projects from its base, ground
         or support more than two inches.  To include, but not limited to: sculpture,

pottery, woodcarving, fine furniture, basketry, fiber arts, jewelry arts, fine craft,

stained glass, etc.

4.  GRAPHICS & MIXED MEDIA – To include drawing with pencil/colored pencil,

charcoal, marker, block printing, screen printing, or mixture of two or more

mediums.

5.  PHOTOGRAPHY – Any two-dimensional work wherein the entire work is created by

photographic process.  To include black and white, and color.  No computer enhancements. 

6.  COMPUTER GENERATED OR ENHANCED WORK – Any two-dimensional work

            wherein the major part is created or enhanced by computer process(es).

   

2010 AWARDS:

1.  The exhibit will be professionally judged with Cash prizes and Ribbons awarded  First, Second and Third  places in each category among the 3 divisions of skill level.

Professional:  First $50.00; Second: $35.00; Third: 25.00

Intermediate:  First: $40.00; Second 25.00; Third 15.00

Amateur:        First $30.00; Second 15.00; Third  10.00

 2.     One Cash prize and Ribbon will be awarded for “Best of Show” (judge’s choice

                   $50.00.)

3.     Honorable Mention Ribbon(s) awarded to work(s) as per judge’s selection.  (no cash prize).

4.     One People’s Choice Award Ribbon is awarded, as per selected popular vote (no cash prize.)

 

 GENERAL RULES:

1.  Artwork must be original (no kits). 

2.  Previous prize-winning entries in the Oil Heritage Art Show cannot be entered.

3.  Please label your work on the back of each piece (or base of 3D pieces).  These labels are provided with application and are returned with fees.  At time of drop off, we will place labels on each submitted piece.  Two-dimensional artwork must be framed, wired and ready for installation upon delivery.  Improperly prepared art (not framed and wired) will be excluded.

4.  If you wish to sell your work, there will be a 25% commission on all sales.  Your price should reflect this amount if you elect to place your artwork for sale.

5.  Sold artwork will remain in the show until show closing.  Artists will receive payment by mail following the show from the City of Oil City.  Please allow 6 weeks to receive funds.

6.  Artists must sign the enclosed release form when the artwork is delivered to the show.

7.  Artwork will not be accepted after 8pm on Friday, July 16th.

8.  The submission of artwork to this show constitutes the artist’s permission for general

     publicity.

Please note: The show chairperson reserves the right to refuse any entry that is inappropriate for family viewing.


 

DELIVERY & PICK-UP OF ARTWORK:

 1.  Artwork must be delivered to the Oil Valley Center for the Arts on Thursday, July 15th

between 6-9pm or on Friday, July 16th between 6-9pm.  Art will not be accepted after

 9pm on Friday, July 16, 2010  and no refunds will be made.

2.  Artwork must be removed after the show closes on Sunday, July 25th. Pick-up times are 4-6pm

Sunday or Monday, July 26th between 4 – 8pm.  If an artist wishes to send a

delegate to pick up their work, they must notify us in advance or send a signed

permission note with the delegate.  All items must be signed out for release.

3.  The Oil City Arts Council, OVCA or chairpersons will not be responsible for any art

remaining in the Center after 8pm of Monday, July 26th.

 As an artist, you are invited to help participate in the art show by volunteering as a show guide or a “show-host”.  If you are willing to contribute a two hours of your time, we do welcome your help.  Please check yes in the box on your application for, and bring a friend!. Thank you!

Exhibit Release Agreement 2010

 

It is hereby understood that I, ______________________________________________

am completely responsible for all materials on exhibit and display.  It is further agreed that this material will be exhibited from Monday, July 19th through Sunday, July 25th.

 

Every attempt will be made to protect and preserve the artwork submitted for display. 

But, it is agreed that the Oil City Arts Council, the Oil Valley Center for the Arts, the

City of Oil City, the Oil City Civic Center, Inc., and all volunteers are relieved of any

or all liability for mutilation or damage or loss of exhibit or display from any cause whatsoever.

 

Your generous loan of this material is greatly appreciated by the Oil City Arts Council.

All artwork may be picked up at the close of the show on Sunday, July 25th between 4 and 6pm or on Monday, July 26th between the hours of 4pm and 8pm.
